PROVIDING DHUTTY MUSIK SINCE 1998
The 2000Black collective established in 1998 by 4Hero’s Dego, was named after a 1975 Roy Ayers’ recording. Inspired by its lyrics ‘Think About the Future, Think About Think About, Change’, the label and band formed a platform where any genre of music rooted in ‘the groove’ would be displayed.
Learning from the past and looking toward the future, 2000Black set course a trip welcoming all musical elements and experiences that they would encounter during their musical voyage.
As a result, many contrasting songs were released such as Pariss Clemons’ (r.i.p.) ‘Black Mary’ to Seiji’s ‘Run’, Bembe Segue’s ‘Take Me To Tomorrow’ to Capitol A’s ‘Doing It Up’. With all this variance one thread of continuity remained—the funk and the soul.
2000Black’s debut cd ‘A Next Set A Rockers’ was well received globally by DJ’s such as BBC 1Xtra’s Benji B., New York City’s A.P.T. Rib Shack with Rich Medina and Radio 1′s Giles Peterson. Previous 2000Black’s cd’s that have been eagerly anticipated were the ‘Good Good’ compilations, Silhouette Brown’s debut LP and DKD’s ‘Future Rage’ jointly produced with Bugs In The Attic. These releases were instrumental in shaping the West London scene.
Since 1998, 2000Black has hosted an annual party alongside DBS in Tokyo inviting various DJ’s from around the globe to spin. In addition, 2000Black has toured extensively in both Europe and Asia performing live at festivals and events.

As the head of the enegmatic 2000Black imprint and revered as one of London’s most important musical visionaries, Dego continues to pioneer forward-thinking soulful music across all tempos and is never restrained by genre, only influenced by quality. Recognized as an Award-Winner, Tastemaker, Songwriter, International DJ and genre defying Music Producer, Dego focuses on generating and performing soulful sounds that often forge into the unknown territories of Black music. Making genre guidelines obsolete, Dego has subsequently heavily influenced the evolutionary course of underground Electronica and the Electro Soul sound.
Kaidi Tatham began playing flute at England’s National Childrens Orchestra then studied piano when he entered the Performing Arts College in London. Kaidi experienced his first taste of life on the road with the ‘Herbaliser’, soon after he dropped keys on NSM, Bugz In The Attic, Restless Soul. He soon met Dego via Mark Force…and so the fight over the clavinet began!!! Full of energy and a blessing in our family Kaidi brings unique elements to 2000Black. Check out his LP ‘In Search Of Hope’ and the earlier Agent K ‘Feed The Cat’ for some of his best works.
Bembe Segue the daughter of cosmic Jazz and Parliament Funk and is one third of writing and production behind Silhouette Brown alongside Dego & Kaidi. Bembe Segue has had countless underground hits and written for many artists such as The Politik, 4Hero, Sleepwalker, DKD, New Sector Movements and 2Banksof4.
Lordamercy aka Thylord and Matt Lord is a member of the infamous ‘Bugz In The Attic’ and a super engineer like no other. Lord is responsible for most of the 2000Black mixdowns and engineering. He’s displayed musical talents on Innerdaze’s ‘Supa 7′ on The Good Good Vol. 3. and has been plaudid for creating custom outboard gear which offers vintage analogue warmth. Oh yeah…he is also pretty handy with an ax in his hands. Watch out for Lordamercy.
Lady Alma was discovered by King Britt then recorded and toured with Britt’s Sylk 130. This powerful singer with a musical upringing from church has had people dancing and snapping necks all across the globe. Alma is blessed with her choral magic— among them; Fanatix’ stunning ‘Higher’ and ‘Gimme That Music’ from Masters At Work’s In The House compilation, ‘Runnin’ For Nothing’ with Mark De Clive Lowe, 4Hero’s anthemic ‘Hold It Down’ and tracks by Japanese super producer Yukihiro Fukutomi, ‘Peace’ and ‘Hooked’. Lady Alma’s magic goes to a whole new level when she performs live. Check her as the new lead vocalist of ‘Silhouette Brown’ live in your city soon.
Face has specialized in Artist Development; preparing artists such as ‘Beverley Knight’, ‘Jamelia’, ‘Sugababes’, ‘Robyn and ‘Spice Girls’ to name a few. Having established herself as both Vocalist, Dancer and Choreographer, Face continues creatively to now highlight her vocal, song-writing ability. As a featured lead vocalist with group 4Hero, 2000Black, Nutmeg, DKD and numerous other offsets of this camp, she has been heard though seldom seen. Born and raised in London, of Jamaican parentage, her early musical influences reflect her cultural heritage. This developed into the diverse sounds which are prominent in the freshness of both her song-writing and music.
With a great CV leading the way, Nadine Charles has sung back up for artists such as Anthony Hamilton, Raphael Saadiq and Gabriel. Nadine began working with us while touring as a vocalist on the first Silhouette Brown LP. Soon after touring and performing live for 2000Black she recorded ‘Simple Sacrifice’ on ‘A Next Set A Rockers’.
Obenewa’s CV reads the same as her sister’s, Nadine Charles. She has a remarkable song writing ability, sings from the heart and eminates a great soulful tone. Many producers are seeking Obenewa’s talent, and we await her debut eagerly!
